Parents-Teachers Association (PTA)

The essence of the school-parents’ partnership is captured and made official through the Parent Teacher Association (PTA).

Definition
The PTA is founded by all parents (the ‘General Assembly of Parents’) and is comprised of parents, teachers, and school administrators.

PTA’s Mandate
The PTA aims to establish effective communication between the school and home through the following:

  • Continuous communication with parents regarding school activities, plans and accomplishments.
  • Attentive listening to and serious consideration for parents’ suggestions and feedback.
  • Engagement of parents when proposing and planning for programs aiming at improving the school’s services, upholding its general philosophy and adhering to its objectives.

PTA’s Main Roles

  • Developing internal policies and procedures to manage the association.
  • Revising and approving the internal policies and procedures based on the consensus of 70% of the members.
  • Recommending and executing programs that help PTA to achieve its goals.

PTA’s Goals

  1. Coordinate with other parents and school management.
  2. Relay the parents’ views and interests to the management.
  3. Advocate the school’s positive image within the community.
  4. Encourage more parents’ involvement in school events.
  5. Spread knowledge on latest parenting research.
  6. Collaborate with stakeholders to realize improvements in the school.
  7. Offer volunteering prospects for the school and the local community.

The Executive Members of the PTA Meet Once a Month.

Roles & Responsibilities Of The Members

The Chairman is responsible for:

  • Leading the PTA and ensuring that the mission is upheld and goals achieved.
  • Developing the PTA’s plans for the academic year.
  • Recommending the activities to be held during the year.
  • Liaising between the parents and the school management.
  • Managing the accounts of the PTA.

The Vice-Chairman is responsible for:

  • Assisting the chairperson in achieving the PTA’s mandate, roles and goals.
  • Substituting the Chairperson when the latter is unavailable.
  • Acting as the communications officer of the PTA.
  • Communicating the PTA’s decisions to the parents and other stakeholders.
  • Presenting the parents’ concerns to the school’s management.

The Secretary is responsible for:

  • Coordinating the preparation of the executive members meetings’ agendas and circulating them 2 days prior to the scheduled meetings’ dates.
  • Following through the decisions and recommendations of the PTA.
  • Taking minutes of the PTA’s meetings.
